I’ve been quilting since 1995, teaching since 2004, and judging quilts since 2007. My specialty is precision machine piecing, and I’m always trying new techniques, gadgets and patterns. I have been fortunate that some of my quilts have won awards across the country, including at A Quilter’s Gathering, Home Machine Quilting Show, Images at the Lowell Quilt Festival, Indiana Heritage Quilt Show, International Quilt Festival in Houston, Machine Quilters Exposition, Machine Quilting Today Upper Midwest Show, Maine Quilts, Mid Atlantic Quilt Festival, Milwaukee Machine Quilting Show, MQX Quilt Festivals, National Quilting Association, Quilting With Machines, Quiltweek Lancaster, Quiltweek Paducah, Road to California, Southern New Hampshire Quilt Festival, Utah Quilting and Sewing Marketplace, Vermont Quilt Festival, and the World Quilt Show – New England. Several of my quilts were juried into the AQS show in Paducah in 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017, winning ribbons in 2015 and 2017. My FreeFall quilt was juried into the International Quilt Festival in Houston. As an award-winning quilter, I lecture, teach workshops, and give demonstrations at guilds, quilt shops, and quilt shows across the country. I enjoy teaching, especially to beginners. **Categories:** Quilting, Retreats **Tags:** Kathie Beltz Quilt Retreat, Quilting in Vermon, Rainbow Drops Quilt, Retreats --- ### [Quilting in Vermont with Tracy O'Donnell: Tucker Tool Time- Open Sew and UFO Retreat](https://www.stronghouseinn.com/blog/2024/01/quilting-in-vermont-with-tracy-odonnell-tucker-tool-time-open-sew-and-ufo-retreat) **Published:** January 13, 2024 **Author:** Client Admin **Content:** #### ![](https://www.stronghouseinn.com/wp-content/uploads/Tracy-ODonnel-December-1024x576.png) #### **Dates: December 12-15, 2024** #### **2024 Rates: $520 per person for Double Occupancy / $720 For Single Occupancy** [![](https://www.stronghouseinn.com/wp-content/uploads/Picture5-1-150x150.png)](https://www.stronghouseinn.com/blog/2024/01/quilting-in-vermont-with-tracy-odonnell-tucker-tool-time-open-sew-and-ufo-retreat/picture5-2) [![](https://www.stronghouseinn.com/wp-content/uploads/Picture4-150x150.png)](https://www.stronghouseinn.com/blog/2024/01/quilting-in-vermont-with-tracy-odonnell-tucker-tool-time-open-sew-and-ufo-retreat/picture4) [![](https://www.stronghouseinn.com/wp-content/uploads/Picture3-150x150.png)](https://www.stronghouseinn.com/blog/2024/01/quilting-in-vermont-with-tracy-odonnell-tucker-tool-time-open-sew-and-ufo-retreat/picture3-3) [![](https://www.stronghouseinn.com/wp-content/uploads/Picture2-150x150.png)](https://www.stronghouseinn.com/blog/2024/01/quilting-in-vermont-with-tracy-odonnell-tucker-tool-time-open-sew-and-ufo-retreat/picture2) [![](https://www.stronghouseinn.com/wp-content/uploads/Picture1-150x150.png)](https://www.stronghouseinn.com/blog/2024/01/quilting-in-vermont-with-tracy-odonnell-tucker-tool-time-open-sew-and-ufo-retreat/picture1) **RETREAT DETAILS** - Single, Double, Triple Rates include: 3 Nights of Hotel Lodging, Quilt Instruction, Sewing Room Fee, and Meals: 3 breakfasts. - Alcohol is not included but can be purchased for an additional charge. Description: Oh no! Is it the end of the year already – and I still have all these unfinished projects?! Was I really trying to finish these by the end of the year? What was I thinking? No matter where you are in your process, this 4-day, 3-night “Open Sew/UFO Retreat” is for you! This is a great time to motivate each other to finish some of these UFO’s or start something new. Maybe you picked out your pattern, gathered your fabric, your rulers, and maybe even started cutting. Maybe you attended a class taught by one of our certified Instructors and bought one of Deb Tucker’s tools – but just can’t remember how to use it. It happens to the best of us. For this retreat, choose any pattern that uses one or more of the Studio 180 Design tools. The patterns here are only a few examples of Deb’s patterns. If you’re not currently working on a pattern, there are a lot out there, written by a number of Studio 180 Certified Instructors. Your pattern may be by any designer as long as it uses the Tucker trim-down tools. You may be making your units larger or smaller than the original pattern, or even changing the pattern a bit. That’s okay too. They don’t have to be big projects either. Maybe you want to make a couple of small, quilted things for gifts, or maybe you just want to learn a few of the rulers or technique sheets in reparation or working on something else later? Your own personal Studio 180 Design Certified Instructor will be right there with you every step of the way. I’ll be there for support and encouragement, offering various tips and tricks, helping you with what you’re in the middle of, or want to learn. What a great way to end the year and welcome 2025 with a little added motivation, confidence, and enthusiasm! Happy New Year! Class Requirements: Your choice of one or more quilt patterns that use one or more Studio 180 Design tools. Studio 180 Design tools, patterns and technique sheets are available at your local quilt shop, at Deb Tucker'’s Studio 180 Design (deb-tuckers-studio-180-design.myshopify.com), or from the instructor, in class or by mail. A Strong House Retreat discount is available on over $35. \*Let me know what you are going to be working on at the retreat. Please contact me at tracyogottasew@gmail.com or through my website at least 30-days before the retreat with your project plans or any questions. I look forward to hearing what you’re working on! The rates of $520ppdo/$720so include 3 nights lodging, and 3 breakfasts (lunches and dinners will be on your own or with the group). Because there are often several rulers and skills to learn, I prefer 3–4-day classes or retreats, considering it takes more than one day to feel comfortable with something new. I want you to be able to go on to continue your quilting adventures once you return home, confident and energized. As a bonus, once you start to see things through the Deb Tucker lens, you might find yourself “Tuckerizing” everything that comes your way! **Categories:** Quilting, Retreats **Tags:** Quilting in Vermont, Quilting Retreat, retreat, Tracy O' Gotta Sew --- ### [In the Strong House Inn Garden](https://www.stronghouseinn.com/blog/2024/06/in-the-strong-house-inn-garden) **Published:** June 19, 2024 **Author:** Client Admin **Content:** ![Three pictures of the gardens at Strong House Inn with roses, hollyhocks, sunset and irises.](https://www.stronghouseinn.com/wp-content/uploads/Minimalist-Travel-Blog-Pinterest-Pin.png) I love a garden…but I do not love to garden. It’s not my parents fault, my mother is one of those lovely individuals that you can point to a plant and ask what it is and 9 times our of 10, she knows what it is. It’s not a dislike of being outdoors. I spent the first twenty years or so of my life existing in a barn surrounded by the horses that I love, drinking out of hoses and often covered in dirt and sweat and occasionally barefoot. But I do not enjoy the concept of maintaining a garden. So of course we bought an Inn with five acres, two of which are somewhat planned garden beds, various trees and an orchard. And of course, last year we pulled out the bushes that constituted the landscaping in the front of the Inn as well as the courtyard to accomplish some renovation projects and the painting of the Inn’s exterior. Now, we are faced with having to put it back. Last year saw a lot of physical changes here at the Inn. As mentioned, we started painting the exterior of the main building. We had a new sign installed, brand new windows, a new laundry system and removed of a section of fencing that was rotting away. So what does a gardening deficient individual do? I’m glad you asked, we hired a landscaper. So, thanks to her, we now have “the” plan and about ten decisions to make in order to accomplish the plan. But in the meantime, thank the Gods for Brigitte! My power house of a mother in law, who at 85 years of age willingly putters around the garden maintaining her iris beds, trimming the next wave of soon to flower buds, and oohs and ahhs with me over the explosion of the peonies, which are now sadly gone. The garden is in excellent shape right now thanks to her and I hope you will all come visit soon so that you can see it in person. Until then, here are some pictures to show off the work we have done. If you’re dreaming of a wedding day that feels personal, peaceful, and perfectly you—welcome home. **Why Couples Are Saying “Yes” to Small Weddings:** - **Authentic Moments**: Smaller gathering = more connection. Your wedding should feel like a love letter, not a Broadway production. - **All the Romance, None of the Chaos**: Ditch the venue drama. Say “I do” in a historic inn that feels like a warm hug. - **Budget Bliss**: Spend wisely on things you actually care about (like that dreamy Vermont photographer, or extra champagne). ![Bride & Groom in front of a white and green building](https://www.stronghouseinn.com/wp-content/uploads/MG_3274-683x1024.jpg) **The Allure of Intimacy: Why Less Really Is More** Gone are the days of 200+ guest lists and impersonal hotel ballrooms. Small weddings put the spotlight exactly where it belongs—on the love story. At Strong House Inn, every detail is steeped in authenticity and care. Imagine saying your vows surrounded by beautiful gardens and the people who matter most. Small doesn’t mean simple—it means significant. And this inn? It’s got character for days. Whether you’re dreaming of a fall foliage “I do” or a cozy winter vow exchange, the inn and its surroundings serve up the perfect backdrop. **All-Inclusive Vibes Without the Wedding Factory Feel** Let’s be real—some venues crank out weddings like they’re on a conveyor belt. Not here. Strong House Inn specializes in elopements and small weddings, and that means *you* get the attention, not Aunt Linda’s fifth email about tablecloth colors. Weddings at the Strong House Inn provide you with: - A beautiful venue for your ceremony and celebration - Planning support from people who are here for you - Recommendations for local vendors who get your vibe It’s bespoke. It’s beautiful. It’s stress-free. ![Fireplace mantel decorated with fall flowers, gourds, and candles](https://www.stronghouseinn.com/wp-content/uploads/gallery-06-1024x558.jpg) **From Ceremony to Slumber: Everything in One Cozy Place** Why split your wedding day between venues and hotels when you could… not? I travel across the region to quilt guilds giving lectures and workshops- sharing my love of quilting! In 1983 my passion for quilting started – with the purchase of my first Bernina and making a sampler quilt – Using scissors, cardboard templates and hand stitching (it was way before rotary cutters!) Those where the days!! I still have my original quilt – it’s well-worn and loved! After that first quilt I took an extended quilting hiatus! In 1998 Alex Anderson came into my home via Simply Quilts, seeing different quilter’s and their styles and techniques – motivated me to start up my quilting again – it’s been non-stop ever since! In 2006 while stitching with a group of four other ladies – we decided to start a quilt guild – because after all – how hard could that be, and the Silver City Quilt Guild in Taunton was founded! A year later we held our first show! My quilts have been displayed & juried into AQS Quilt Week shows in Paducah, Syracuse, Des Moines and Chattanooga; Houston International Quilt Festival, Road to California; Mancuso New England, Home Machine Quilt Show; NEQM Images Show and The Quilter’s Gathering. Winning awards along the way! Today there is a special room(s) in the house set aside just for quilting – my sanctuary! When I have a bad day I quilt it away and when I have a good day I quilt with it! Not sure where my quilting will take me … but for now I’m happy playing with fabric and sharing my knowledge with others! ![](https://www.stronghouseinn.com/wp-content/uploads/Screenshot-2025-11-11-172357.png) “The Ships” Judged “Best of Show” at the 2025 Silver City Quilt Guild Quilt Show, also receiving Exemplary Hand Quilting and Exemplary Applique ribbons! **Categories:** General, Quilting, Retreats **Tags:** applique, crafting, fabric arts in Vermont, janet ann creations, janet elia quilting, Quiltinginvermont, Retreats, Strong House Inn, Vermont Quilt Retreats --- ### [Top Places to Stay Near Middlebury College | Strong House Inn](https://www.stronghouseinn.com/blog/2025/12/top-places-to-stay-near-middlebury-college-strong-house-inn) **Published:** December 17, 2025 **Author:** Client Admin **Content:** # Where to Stay Near Middlebury College: The Strong House Inn Is the Hidden Gem You’ve Been Looking For Planning a visit to **Middlebury College**? A Day in the Lake is light and airy and makes you think of the wind blowing off the Lake on a Summer day. It is a mix of Peak and Spike (V Star Block) and Chained Log Cabin Blocks that create a lot of movement. It is a fun and fast way to use a Fat Quarter Bundle of mixed prints. Low Volume fabrics that traditionally come in the larger Fat Quarter Bundles are utilized in this great pattern. Three sizes to choose from and requires Pattern and the following Studio 180 Design Tools: V Block and Tucker Trimmer. ![](https://www.stronghouseinn.com/wp-content/uploads/Hunters-Sky_Island-Batik-with-Lt-Blue-Frame-300x300.jpg) Hunter’s Sky combines the Hunter’s Star Blocks and the Nine-Patch Star Blocks. When the blocks come together, they form a double set of eight pointed stars, one with diamonds and the other with triangles. The Nine-Patch Star is what gives the quilt that beautiful circular motion. Both the Hunter’s Star Block and Nine-Patch Star Blocks are made with a Dark Background, Light Accent and eight assorted Bright fabrics. As designed, this quilt has a Dark Background Border, you could elect to substitute that for a printed fabric or add a traditional border in addition to the Dark Background Border. Hunter’s Sky comes together easily with the Studio 180 Design’s Wedge Star™, V Block™, and Tucker Trimmer III™ tools. Michelle designed Hunter’s Sky, while mourning her beloved German Shepherd, Hunter, who passed away at 9 years old, after a battle with degenerative myelopathy. It only seemed fitting to name this quilt Hunter’s Sky, may he rest in peace. ![](https://www.stronghouseinn.com/wp-content/uploads/Ticker-Tape-Parade-297x300.jpg) Ticker Tape Parade was inspired by parades held in New York City, where large amounts of shredded paper (originally actual ticker tape, but now mostly confetti) was thrown from nearby office buildings onto the parade route, creating a celebratory effect by the snowstorm-like flurry which is evident in the quilt center. The Diamond Rects border represents the barriers that can be found along the streets to keep the crowds back. The Piano Keys represent the buildings flanking the streets, colloquially called the “Canyon of Heroes”. **RETREAT POLICIES** - DEPOSIT: A non-refundable $250.00 deposit is required to reserve your space. Relaxation, enjoyment, and learning how to create this charming honeybee design using Heidi Proffetty’s mosaic quilting techniques are the main objectives of this multi-day, project-based retreat. Students need to bring very few supplies because practically everything they need is in the kit, and bringing your sewing machine is optional. Day 1 – Meet and greet National Quilt Instructor Heidi Proffetty, featured presentation on Mosaic Quilting, Q&A, and in- person viewing of Mosaic Quilts! Day 2 – Start the day learning how to hand draw a mosaic pictorial design, then sit back and relax for the rest of the day while you puzzle together this lovely honey bee mosaic quilt. This is an excellent opportunity to catch up with your friends, make new ones, or just relax by yourself. Day 3 – Pick up where you left off and finish your mosaic design, watch as Heidi teaches how to properly set up your sewing machine for success and demonstrates how she does her micro-stipple quilting method. Day 4: Prepare your mosaic quilt top by securing the mosaic fabric pieces for safe return home, followed by Heidi’s quilt finishing tips like layering, squaring up, and binding, a final Q&A, and the opportunity to purchase any mosaic quilt making supplies. Bonus: On Days 2 and 3, Heidi will provide a brief after-hours demonstration of how she draws a mosaic on her iPad and will have her digital cutter set up to show how she cuts fabric pieces for a mosaic quilt. #### During the retreat you will learn: \*How to create a mosaic pictorial drawing with photograph as a guide \*Specific terminology used in both traditional and modern mosaic art design. Gain knowledge of basic mosaic art concepts such as patterns, flow, shapes, and color to build a mosaic composition \*Identify values in a photograph and how to convert those values to shades of color to assist you in selecting the appropriate fabrics \*Learn how to design a mosaic using classic raw edge applique methods, pencil and paper to draw and scissors to cut the mosaic shapes \*Then, discover some unconventional tools like an iPad and digital art programs to draw, trace, color, and produce vector files that can be utilized with an electronic digital cutting machine to cut hundreds of small, detailed mosaic shapes from fabric \*Understand how to choose the right fabrics and how to properly treat and bond your textiles to get the greatest raw edge fabric outcomes with the least amount of fraying \*Learn Heidi’s newest and simplest method for building the mosaic design without the need for a light box, numbered patterns, stencils, fabric marking equipment \*Recognize appropriate threads and needles to use to secure and draw your attention to the mosaic design \*Discuss quilt finishing tips like layering, free-motion micro-stippling quilting, and binding. **RETREAT POLICIES** - DEPOSIT: A non-refundable $250.00 deposit is required to reserve your space. I’m totally passionate about quilting and teaching others to quilt. Becoming a Studio 180 Design Certified Instructor in 2013 is one of the great joys of my life. My quilt “Waves of Joy” is included in Deb Tucker’s book “Royal Treasures” based on the Hunter Star quilt. I discovered One Block Wonders (OBWs) in 2006, I have made 95 so far. Two of my One Block Wonders are featured in Maxine Rosenthal’s book “One Block Wonders Around the World”. The OBW blocks are made from one fabric with very little waste! You cut and sew equilateral triangles forming hexagons and then design with these kaleidoscopic blocks. There are NO “Y” seams. Because this quilt features one repeated block, design involves playing with the colors and shapes in any way you choose. The quilt you produce will have more energy and movement than the original fabric. **Categories:** Uncategorized --- ### [Quilting in Vermont with Sew on the Go: Master the Corner Beam Unit: Majestic Glammer & a New Pattern To Be Named](https://www.stronghouseinn.com/blog/2023/08/quilting-in-vermont-with-sewr-on-the-go-master-the-corner-beam) **Published:** August 18, 2023 **Author:** Client Admin **Content:** ## ![](https://www.stronghouseinn.com/wp-content/uploads/SOG-November-Retreat3-1024x576.png) 2024 Quilting in Vermont & Michelle Hiatt’s Sew on the Go Retreat will be held at the Strong House Inn, from Thursday- Monday, November 7-11, 2024. **RETREAT DETAILS** - Single, Double, Triple Rates includes; 4 Nights of Hotel Lodging, Quilt Instruction, Sewing Room Fee, and Meals: 4 dinners, 4 breakfasts and 3 lunches. - Alcohol is not included but can be purchased for an additional charge. For 10 years she quilted clients’ quilts and only made a few simple quilts for herself. She started vending at most of the major quilt shows on the east coast and mid-west representing a fabric cutting system. At one of those shows her booth was next to Jeff and Deb Tuckers’ (Studio 180 Design) and they became fast friends! Deb and Jeff introduced Barbara to the two tools they were demonstrating – the Wing Clipper and the Hunter’s Star. It wasn’t love at first sight. You see, Barbara was (and still is) a very talented machine quilter but wasn’t much of a piecer – she mostly found it difficult and frustrating. Having the right tools changed everything! Barbara began making quilts she never thought possible – Hunter’s Stars, Flying Geese, Lemoyne Stars – and the list goes on and on. She began working at the quilt shows as part of the Studio 180 Design team. And what she enjoyed most was teaching quilters how to use the tools and share all the other quilting hints and tips she learned. Barbara has been teaching at guilds, shops, retreats and quilt shows for the past 6 years. Her teaching style is relaxed, informative and fun! She enjoys teaching quilters of all skill levels and shares many tips and ideas that make piecing easier, faster and more accurate. www.alleycatquilt.works **Categories:** Quilting, Retreats --- ### [Quilting in Vermont with Sew on the Go: Holiday Projects Retreat](https://www.stronghouseinn.com/blog/2023/08/holiday-projects-retreat) **Published:** August 18, 2023 **Author:** Client Admin **Content:** ## ![](https://www.stronghouseinn.com/wp-content/uploads/SOG-December-Retreat.png) 2024 Quilting in Vermont & Michelle Hiatt’s Sew on the Go Retreat will be held at the Strong House Inn, from Wednesday- Sunday, December 4-8, 2024. Three sizes included in the pattern; Table Runner, Wall, and Large Throw. Additionally, this is a perfect quilt to use year round in a cabin setting. Michelle combines two blocks, Comfort Star and Evergreen Joy, with a pieced border of Flying Geese and Half Square Triangles which finish the fabulous design elements. The Comfort Star block dates to the late 1800’s, known as Eight Hands Around. Michelle personally remembers her Oma placing this block in her comfort quilts, stating that an Eight Hands Around Quilt would help those lying beneath it manage, cope, survive and provide comfort. In this design, the Comfort Star falls back and lets Michelle’s newly designed Evergreen Joy block come forward. This is achieved with proper fabric value placement. So, while you can alternate fabric color, to achieve the dimension in the quilt, be sure to adhere to the fabric value recommendations. Tons of fun! Makes for a great Table Runner, Wall hanging, or Large Throw size quilt. Comfort and Joy comes together easily with the Studio 180 Design’s Tucker Trimmer, Wing Clipper, and V Block tools. ![](https://www.stronghouseinn.com/wp-content/uploads/Screenshot-2023-08-07-143528-298x300.png) #### **Family Traits Quilt Pattern** Family Traits is a terrific Holiday Stashbuster Quilt that comes together simply and creates a quick delightful quilt. Family Traits features Sisterhood and Brotherhood Blocks, plus a Border Block. All blocks are constructed using the same V Block method. This is the perfect design to use up medium and large-scale prints. The use of a large-scale print for the Corner Squares will give a scrappy look. Alternatively, could uses scraps in similar colors to get the same affect. The Center Square of both Blocks is the perfect place to fussy cut a beautiful fabric with a featured element, such as a butterfly. Connie’s early inspirations include her mother’s catering work, which included beautiful pastries and cakes, along with her grandmother, Nini, who provided her family with holiday tins of anise flavored Springerle cookies. In 1993, Connie submitted Nini’s recipe to a holiday cookie contest sponsored by the Chicago Tribune and was one of the winners. The then-owner of House on the Hill saw Connie’s recipe and contacted her. After learning about the Springerle molds available through House on the Hill, she became a steady collector of their molds. #### Connie purchased House on the Hill in 2002 and sold the company in 2021. Connie has expanded her knowledge of Springerle cookie baking and has gained expertise in other traditional molded cookies. She has taught many classes and seminars about molded cookies and using cookie molds for crafting at cooking schools and historical sites. This preserves the detail of the surface pattern. While historical molds show that springerle were baked for religious holidays and secular occasions throughout the year, they are now most commonly associated with the Christmas season. ##### The name *springerle* translates literally as “little jumper” or “little knight”, but its exact origin is unknown. It may refer the popular motif of a jumping horse in the mold, or just to the rising or “springing up” of the dough as it bakes. The origin of the cookie can be traced back to at least the 14th century in southwestern Germany and surrounding areas, mostly in Swabia. ![](https://www.stronghouseinn.com/wp-content/uploads/g_11135_m11136_Glamour-2-300x199.jpg) ##### **Schedule:** ##### Thursday: ##### Arrive between 3pm and 5pm ##### 5pm Meet & Greet reception with Connie and a history of Springerle Molds --- ##### Friday: ##### Behind the scenes tour of the Shelburne Museums collection of cookie and food molds ##### Make Springerle and speculaas dough, ##### Mold cookies for baking and drying overnight --- ##### Saturday: ##### Bake cookies, paint cookies, --- ##### Sunday: ##### Answer any final questions and finish up projects, ![Bright room with red geraniums in the windows with a woman instructing tables full of ladies in how to make a craft.](https://www.stronghouseinn.com/wp-content/uploads/gallery-events-3-1024x558.jpg) #### About Connie Meisinger ![](https://www.stronghouseinn.com/wp-content/uploads/Connie-273x300.jpg) Connie Meisinger is the former owner of House on the Hill, Inc., a company that manufactures working replicas of historic cookie molds and newly designed and hand carved cookie mold designs . I’ve been quilting since 1995, teaching since 2004, and judging quilts since 2007. I have been fortunate that some of my quilts have won awards at shows across the country, including A Quilter’s Gathering, Home Machine Quilting Show, Images at the Lowell Quilt Festival, Indiana Heritage Quilt Show, International Quilt Festival in Houston, Machine Quilters Exposition, Machine Quilting Today Upper Midwest Show, Maine Quilts, Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival, MQX Quilt Festivals, National Quilting Association, Quilting With Machines, Quiltweek Lancaster, Quiltweek Paducah, Road to California, Southern New Hampshire Quilt Festival, Utah Quilting and Sewing Marketplace, Vermont Quilt Festival, and World Quilt Show – New England. My quilts have been juried into the AQS show in Paducah in multiple years, winning ribbons in 2015 and 2017. As an award-winning quilter, I lecture, give demonstrations, and teach workshops at guilds, quilt shops, and quilt shows nationally. I especially enjoy teaching beginners. In 2013, I became a Certified Instructor for Studio 180 Design, Deb Tucker’s tool and technique company. In 2017, I launched Kathie Beltz Quilt Designs, my own line of companion patterns for Studio 180 Design tools. These quilt patterns are for smaller projects that look complicated but are easier to make than you may think. In expanding my teaching base, I have become an Ambassador for Beth Helfter and Eva Paige Quilt Designs, and I have been a member of the Creators Club at Northcott Fabrics. There’s lots going on, and it’s keeping me busy! Of course, my latest adventure is virtual teaching. I offer lectures, classes, and demos online through Zoom or Facebook Live. **Categories:** Quilting **Tags:** If These Threads Could Talk, Jackie O'Brien, One Block Wonder, Quilting in Vermont, Vermont Quilt Retreats --- ### [Jenn's Journey and Grand Central Retreat with Barbara Dann](https://www.stronghouseinn.com/blog/2022/07/jenns-journey-and-grand-central-retreat-with-barbara-dann) **Published:** July 23, 2022 **Author:** Client Admin **Content:** ![Green cover with picture of Barbara Dann and two quilts](https://www.stronghouseinn.com/wp-content/uploads/Barbara-Dann-Cover.png) Join us in April for another great retreat with Barbara Dann. She enjoys teaching quilters of all skill levels and shares many tips and ideas that make piecing easier, faster and more accurate. www.alleycatquiltworks.com ![](https://www.stronghouseinn.com/wp-content/uploads/Country2_1024x1-298x300.jpg) **Categories:** Quilting --- ### [Quilting in Vermont- Judy Niemeyer UFO Retreat with Susan Deshensky](https://www.stronghouseinn.com/blog/2022/03/judy-niemeyer-ufo-retreat) **Published:** March 15, 2022 **Author:** Client Admin **Content:** ![](https://www.stronghouseinn.com/wp-content/uploads/Quilt-2.jpg) **Price: $620 – $775** **Dates: April 7-10, 2022** **Instructor: Susan Deshensky of Lady Blue Quilt Studio** **Cost:** $620.00 per person based on double occupancy and $775.00 for single occupancy **Quilt Retreat includes:** 3 nights lodging, 3 breakfasts, 2 lunch, 2 afternoon tea, 2 Dinners (Thursday and Saturday) your sewing room set-up, teacher fee, and taxes. In my family, that means cinnamon rolls! Specifically, my Great Grandmother Lucille’s cinnamon rolls. Grandma Lucy, to all of us, was the matriarch of my mother’s side of the family. She was a brilliant piano player and just a dynamic woman to know. And of course, she was the bestower of our family tradition of cinnamon rolls for Christmas Morning. Gooey on the inside and crisp and sugary on the outside, whether you chose the regular cinnamon rolls or the pecan rolls, you were sure to be in heaven all morning long. Sunday mornings here at the Inn often feature my Grandma Lucy’s rolls in one of my many favorite forms- pecan rolls, cinnamon apple with caramel sauce, glazed with and without raisins….or just plain good cinnamon rolls straight from my family to yours! This lovely bed and breakfast, featuring modern amenities coupled with original details, provides a wonderful and authentic setting for New England vacations and weekend getaways. Samuel Paddock Strong built his house in 1834, in the Federal style with Greek Revival influences. Samuel was the son of General Samuel Strong who directed the Vermont militia at the Battle of Plattsburg during the War of 1812. He was also the grandson of John Strong, a local legislator and military leader as well as one of the first settlers of Addison County. Samuel Paddock Strong made his mark in business as President of the Bank of Vergennes and Director of the Rutland and Burlington railroad. The Strong family passion for building grand houses is reflected in this elegant residence. Some of the prominent interior details of the house are the free-standing main staircase with curly maple railings, the black (seashell) marble fireplace in the morning room over which hangs a portrait of Samuel as a young man, and the elegant moldings and doors throughout. The house, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is considered one of the best-preserved Federal/Greek Revival homes in the area.
